Three Lincoln Academy wrestlers were crowned South Class B Regional champions on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Morse High School in Bath. Adam St.Cyr won the 135 pound title, Jayden Lafrenaye the 165 pound title, and Jakobi Hagar the 175 pound title.

Three Medomak Valley wrestlers placed second, Shamus Pease at 157, Grady Pease at 165, and Marshall Addy at 215. Erskine Academy’s Giacomo Smith, of Whitefield, placed second at 150 pounds.

Lincoln’s Cole Workman placed third at 132, and Medomak’s Nate Staples (113) and Nathan Gess (285) placed fourth.

All nine wrestlers qualified for the State Class B championships, to be held at Mt. Valley High School in Rumford on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Lincoln Academy swim coach Nori (Lund) McLeod was named KVAC Class B Girls Coach of  the Year at an awards ceremony after the KVAC championship meet, held Friday, Feb. 9 at the Bath YMCA. Belfast coach Bob Winslow was named boys Coach of the Year.

Lincoln Academy’s Piper Carleton placed second in the 200 IM and sixth in the 100 breaststroke. Owen Card placed second in the 100 free and third in the 200 free. Eren Aybas took third in both the 50 free and 100 free. Jayden Brown placed seventh in the 200 free and eighth in the 100 butterfly.

Camden girls won with 406 points, followed by Belfast, Morse, Gardiner/ Hall-Dale, Waterville/ Winslow, Erskine, and Lincoln.

Morse boys won with 364 points, followed by Belfast 291, Waterville/ Winslow 198, Camden 121, Lincoln 102, and Gardiner/ Hall-Dale 10.

Boys Basketball

The Lincoln Academy boys (15-3) finished as the second seed in Class B South. They will take on the winner of a preliminary game on Friday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Portland Expo.

Medomak Valley (15-3) finished as the fourth seed in Class B South. They will take on fifth seed Yarmouth on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Portland Expo.

Wiscasset (9-9) finished as the fifth seed in Class D South. They will take on Buckfield on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 12 noon in the Augusta Civic Center. The two teams split during the regular season.

The 12th ranked Boothbay boys finished 5-13, and out of the playoff picture in Class C South.

Girls Basketball

The Medomak Valley girls (14-4) finished as the second seed in Class B South. They will take on seventh seed York on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Portland Expo.

Eighth seed Lincoln Academy (10-8) will host a Class B South preliminary game at home on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. against ninth seed Biddeford.

The Boothbay girls finished 5-13 and out of the Class C South playoffs.

The Wiscasset girls finished 0-18 and out of the Class D South playoffs.

The Lincoln Academy girls basketball team lost their final regular season game to Morse  45-40 on Thursday, Feb. 8 in Bath. The offense sputtered out of the gate and the Eagles fell behind 25-15 at halftime. Mariam DeLisle tallied 20 points to lead Lincoln Academy scorers. Also putting points on the board for the Eagles were Olivia Ball 7, Maggie Thompson 3, Chloe Anderson 3, Lilly Labrie 2, Kennedie Anderson 2, Scarlett O’Brien 2 and Natalie Kaler 1. Reese Darling led the Shipbuilders (3-15) to the upset win with a dozen points, and Haley Kirkpatrick chipped in 11. 

The Eagles fell to 10-8 on the season, and remained in 8th place in the Class B South Heal Points standings. Lincoln Academy is expected to play Biddeford at home in a preliminary round playoff game, but it is not yet official. 

The Panthers girls basketball team was propelled by a dynamic scoring rally at the start of the second half to secure a convincing 65-32 win over MCI on Thursday, Feb. 8 in the Panthers’ den. Medomak Valley quickly turned a competitive 30-17 halftime lead into a rout by using a pressure defense to trap the Huskies in their own end, and then scored ten straight points off the ensuing turnovers. 

Kytana Williamson led the way for the Panthers with 26 points. Kayleigh Dunton led the Huskies with 11 points. Medomak Valley improved to 14-4 on the season, and the win elevated the team to second in the Class B South Heal Points standings heading into the playoffs. The MCI Huskies fell to 9-9 on the season.

The Lincoln Academy boys basketball team defeated visiting Morse 86-58 in their final game of the KVAC season on Thursday, Feb. 8. The Eagles’ six seniors were recognized before the game, including Braxton Crockett, Tucker Stiles, Lucas Houghton, Wyatt Simmons, Casey Duncan and Gabe Hagar.  The Eagles sank eleven 3-pointers in the win, one shy of a school record broken in their win over Leavitt.

Scoring leaders for LA were Hagar with 21, Stiles 17, Houghton 14, and Duncan 11. Morse was led by Jack Delano with 21 and Gage Suitter 12.

Lincoln boys finish their regular season at 15-3, and look to head into the playoffs as the second or third seed in Class B South.

The Boothbay middle school Wildcats won the girls Busline League South Division title by beating South Bristol 70-40 on Wednesday, Feb. 7 in Boothbay. The undefeated Wildcats advanced to the Busline League championship game against the North Division winner on February 10. Boothbay was in control of the match the whole way and enjoyed leads of 18-5 after one quarter, 31-13 at the half, and 50-26 after 3 quarters as they cruised to the victory. 

The Wildcats were led by Eleanor Erwin, who tallied 30 points, and Xavi Hall who chipped in 15. Izze Bhe had a terrific game for the Mariners, scoring 31 points in the loss. 

The Boothbay girls basketball team got trounced 93-19 by Spruce Mountain in their final game of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 7 in Boothbay. Spruce Mountain finished the regular season 16-2 and earned second place in the Class B South Heal Point Standings. The Phoenix will be a championship contender in the upcoming playoffs.

It was clear from the start that the talented Phoenix squad would be too much to handle for the Class C Seahawks as Spruce Mountain exploded to a 32-6 lead after the first quarter. The Seahawks hustled to the final buzzer and ended the season 5-13, out of playoff contention. Senior captain Meg Sledge played hard and led the Seahawks with 6 points in her final game as a Seahawk.

Oceanside cheerleaders won the Busline League championship on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Medomak Middle School. Mt. Abram jumped out to a 30-3 lead over Boothbay at the end of the first quarter and coasted to a 89-36 win on Tuesday, Feb. 6 in Boothbay. The Roadrunners lived up to their mascot name by playing a run-and-gun style that quickly left Boothbay in the dust. Boothbay trailed 50-10 at the half before regrouping and generating some offense in the second half.  Finn Harkins led the Seahawks with 13 points and Luke Morley chipped in 11. Payton Mitchell led the Roadrunners with 25 points. The Seahawks fell to 5-12 on the season, but despite the loss remained alive in the hunt for a playoff spot.
