Mentors Theme of Student/Teacher Art Show at Maine Art Gallery

Parents, teachers and children poured into the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset for the opening of the K-12 student art show on Friday, April 12. For the first time in the years that the annual exhibit has opened the gallery’s season, students presented their work alongside that of their teachers.

This week, Gov. Janet Mills allowed L.D. 1578, “An Act to Adopt an Interstate Compact to Elect the President of the United States by National Popular Vote” to become law without her signature. It was just passed by the state Legislature as an act to adopt an interstate compact to elect the president of the United States by national popular vote.

Rhoda Jean Harvey, 59, of Waldoboro passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Rhoda was born on Jan. 1, 1965 in Rockland, being the first baby born on New Year’s Day that year. She was one of four children born to Sheldon and Minnie Harvey.

Marion A. Whitmore, 94, died April 13, 2024, at LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta.  Marion was born April 30, 1929, in Revere, Mass. to Waldemar and Florence Brown Christianson, the oldest of seven children.

Barry N. Dubord Sr. June 16, 1949 - April 9, 2024

On April 9, 2024 Barry N. Dubord Sr. lost his courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 16, 1949 in Bridgewater, Mass., to Eugene Sr. and Barbara Dubord; the fifth child of six, Barry was educated in both Massachusetts and Maine schools.

David B. Wincapaw Nov. 6, 1945 - April 8, 2024

David B. Wincapaw, 78, of Waldoboro, passed away at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor on April 8, 2024. David has gone home into the loving arms of his lord and savior and reunited with his beautiful bride of 56 years. David was born on Nov. 6, 1945, to Freeman and Faith (Curtis) Wincapaw. David grew up in Waldoboro and attended local schools.

Phillip A. Applin Nov. 5, 1948 - March 27, 2024

On March 27, 2024, Phillip Alonzo Applin passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at Maine Medical Center. He was born in Bath on Nov. 5, 1948, the third son of five children. Phillip grew up in Alna and Wiscasset. As a young man he split time between Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Wiscasset. He eventually settled down in Waldoboro. He graduated from Wiscasset High School as a member of the class of 1967.

Barbara Ann (Hansen) Mason Sept. 5, 1927 - Dec. 11, 2023

Barbara Ann (Hansen) Mason, of Millinocket, passed away suddenly on Dec. 11, 2023 at home shortly after asking that the birdfeeders be filled first, with the next order of business being what she herself would like for dinner that evening. All who knew her throughout her life can smile and know simply that this was her most fitting end to a most extraordinary, spirited, and caring life.
