John “Jack” Banta, 79, of Damariscotta, embraced eternal life on Oct. 9, 2025. Born May 12, 1946 at the Catholic Hospital in Paterson, N.J., Jack was the middle child of Doris (Huxster) and Howard McFaden Banta. Jack attended schools in Kinnelon, N.J., graduating from Butler High School in 1964. His favorite subject was history and he was particularly fond of the school’s library services where he worked as a volunteer.

Stuart J. Mahan, 82, of Damariscotta, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Sussman House in Rockland on Oct. 10, 2025. He was born at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta on Aug. 19, 1943 to John and Hazel Mahan, of Pemaquid Harbor. He spent his childhood exploring the woods, water, and fields in and around the peninsula honing his skills as an outdoorsman and sailor. As a young man he worked under the tutelage of his grandfather, father, and uncles, who taught him the crafts of carpentry and boatbuilding. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Pemaquid before attending Bristol School and High School.

Megan’s life began on June 14, 1989, born to Sheldon (Ted) and Sherry Hodgdon. She is the younger sister to Troy Hodgdon and Sarah Winchenbach, the baby of her family. She was a happy yet stubborn child, causing her parents some grief with a few phone calls from her elementary school teachers and principal, even given an unhappy face on her second grade report card because she did not want to participate in gym class. Her stubborn will continued throughout her life, which turned out to be one of her greatest qualities. It gave her the desire and push to focus on her education graduating from Boothbay Region High School in 2007 and completing her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Maine Farmington in 2016 with the magna cum laude distinction.
