The Cleaves family is sad to relay the passing of their patriarch, George Cleaves, on Sept. 29, 2025.

Dr. John William Towne, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 at his home in Bremen.

Michael C. Sykes Sr., 65, of Waldoboro, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Aug. 28, 2025, at his home. He was born on July 28, 1960 at Miles Memorial Hospital (now MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital) in Damariscotta.

John “Jack” Banta, 79, of Damariscotta, embraced eternal life on Oct. 9, 2025. Born May 12, 1946 at the Catholic Hospital in Paterson, N.J., Jack was the middle child of Doris (Huxster) and Howard McFaden Banta. Jack attended schools in Kinnelon, N.J., graduating from Butler High School in 1964. His favorite subject was history and he was particularly fond of the school’s library services where he worked as a volunteer.

Stuart J. Mahan, 82, of Damariscotta, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Sussman House in Rockland on Oct. 10, 2025. He was born at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta on Aug. 19, 1943 to John and Hazel Mahan, of Pemaquid Harbor. He spent his childhood exploring the woods, water, and fields in and around the peninsula honing his skills as an outdoorsman and sailor. As a young man he worked under the tutelage of his grandfather, father, and uncles, who taught him the crafts of carpentry and boatbuilding. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Pemaquid before attending Bristol School and High School.

Charles Harrison Frazier Meade died peacefully on Oct. 11, 2025 in his home in Newcastle surrounded by loving family.

Marlene Burns, 87, passed peacefully on Oct. 10, 2025 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Center in Damariscotta.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of Anthony “Tony” A. Tozier, 56, of Jefferson, who passed away at his home on Sept. 19, 2025, surrounded by love from his beloved wife, Cindy.

The world lost a bright light when Judith Anne Mitchell died suddenly of natural causes, on June 3, 2024. She was born in New York City to musical parents: her father, William, was a musicologist and professor at Columbia University; her mother, Adelheid (Wagner), was a concert pianist.

Megan’s life began on June 14, 1989, born to Sheldon (Ted) and Sherry Hodgdon. She is the younger sister to Troy Hodgdon and Sarah Winchenbach, the baby of her family. She was a happy yet stubborn child, causing her parents some grief with a few phone calls from her elementary school teachers and principal, even given an unhappy face on her second grade report card because she did not want to participate in gym class. Her stubborn will continued throughout her life, which turned out to be one of her greatest qualities. It gave her the desire and push to focus on her education graduating from Boothbay Region High School in 2007 and completing her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Maine Farmington in 2016 with the magna cum laude distinction.

Adelaide Albright, 27, of Waldoboro, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025. Born Gavin Stephens on March 12, 1998 to John and Becky Stephens, Addi was the baby of the family for a long time.
