The month of June has been a swirl of activity for the volunteers at Whitefield Library, and we are getting ready for more of the same in July. We are making plans for the return of our annual “Yard, Used Books & Baked Goodies Sale” on Saturday, July 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library, at 1 Arlington Lane, Whitefield.
George D. Hovey
George D. Hovey, 81, of New Harbor, and Huron, Ohio, passed away at the LincolnHealth-Miles Campus in Damariscotta on Friday, June 24, 2022, after a period of declining health. Born in Milo to Earl (Pete) and Elva Hovey, his family moved to Billerica, Mass. and lived there until his father was transferred to the Ford Motor Co. in Lorain, Ohio.

Damariscotta History: The Migration of Birds to the Round Top Area is Outstanding This Year
This spring I installed 15 birdhouses in my backyard and meadow and waited for the mid-May migration of birds to arrive. Sure enough, they arrived early and wasted no time taking up free boarding in the birdhouses. It is now June 12 and so far I have seen two birdhouses of tree swallows hatch out and leave their houses and one set of tree swallows is still feeding their just-hatched brood.

Two artists currently on view at the Pemaquid Art Gallery in Bristol’s Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park are Barbara Klein and Liliana Thelander, both oil painters with distinctive realistic styles who depict coastal scenes among other subjects.

Frances Strong “Bunny” (Bogardus) Lang was born Jan. 15, 1931 in Bronxville, N.Y., the daughter of John Arthur Bogardus and Elinor Morris Strong, sister of John (Jack) Bogardus Jr.
William ‘Bud’ Clark Lang
Bud was born March 24, 1929 in Glen Ridge, N.J., the son of William Christian Lang and Juliet Cornell Clark, and brother of Juliet Cornell Lang Mixon and Briscoe Baldwin Lang. He was a graduate of Glen Ridge High School and Dartmouth College, class of 1951. He joined the United States Marine Corps after college in 1951, and served in Korea through 1953.
