The Kefauver Studio & Gallery, Damariscotta, is calling for artists to participate in the “Monhegan & the Islands” art exhibition. This is the third group show of the 2021 season, and runs from Sept. 24 to Oct. 24. The theme is the natural and man-made beauty of beloved Monhegan Island, and Maine’s other islands, including Vinalhaven, Mount Desert Island, and Peaks Island. All work should be in keeping with that theme.

Every year, area residents receive benefits from the sale of artwork by the Pemaquid Group of Artists. A long-standing mission of this group is to foster an appreciation of art in the Midcoast area and to support art education. Funding for this mission comes from commissions on sales, membership fees, donated artworks and donations from visitors.

Midcoast Conservancy will hold the ninth annual Live Edge Music Festival on Sunday, Sept. 19, at Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson. Gates will open at 11:30 a.m.; the music will run until 6 p.m.

“Impressionism, Modernism & Realism Across the Atlantic” will open at the Wiscasset Bay Gallery in Wiscasset on Saturday, Sept. 4. The exhibition will feature works by artists from the United States, Great Britain, France, Spain, Holland, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg and span the 17th century through the 21st century.

Lincoln County Community Theater, the resident theater company of Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater, will hold general auditions for the upcoming 2021-22 season from 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the Lincoln Theater.

Linda Mercer and Linda Healy, hand weavers from Newcastle, will participate in the second annual Arts in the Field event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Good Neighbors Park, 45 River Road in Cushing.

The Saltwater Artists Gallery will feature work by artist Sue Heil Kibbe this week with a showcase of her pastels and oil pictures.

River Arts Gallery’s 2021 “Abstract” show is full of powerful color and emotional expression, demonstrating that abstract art is alive and vibrant in Maine. This year’s “Abstract” show was selected by artist and educator, Ingrid Ellison. The show runs from Tuesday, Aug. 10 through Saturday, Sept. 11.

The Bristol Area Library is pleased to have the artwork of Alexandra Perry-Weiss on display for the month of August. She is exhibiting five larger oil paintings with a delightful selection of subject matter.

The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor will welcome two great bands this month with the arrival of Cattle Call on Friday, Aug. 13 and a performance by Sons of Serendip on Saturday, Aug. 14.
