Helping Hands of Round Pond will hold a sale of homemade sweets just in time for Valentine’s Day. The Valentine-themed bake sale will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m., or until the sweets run out, on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Round Pond Fire Station, Route 32. A variety of handmade sweets will be available.

The second annual Jeff Bradbury Memorial Ice Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19. Tickets are available at Damariscotta Hardware, in Damariscotta, and at Louis Doe Home Center and Mail It 4 U in Newcastle. Tickets will also be available the day of the derby from 8 to 9 a.m. at the state boat launch on Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson.

Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust naturalist Sarah Gladu will lead a hike at Bearce Allen and NORGAL Preserves in Bristol from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Feb. 11.

Salt Bay Farm is a favorite local destination for sledding. The big hill behind the parking lot offers a long, fast descent to those with a taste for speed, while the gentle hill just behind the farmhouse is just right for a milder ride.

Cowbells, cocoa, and camaraderie are in store for anyone who joins Midcoast Conservancy as part of its 10th annual Biathlon at Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson on Sunday, Feb. 20. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate and cheering squads are encouraged.

The day-to-day work of a Maine forest ranger can include dangling from a helicopter rescuing a hiker on a remote peak, using infrared technology to search for wildfires, or patrolling a large service area to enforce natural resources laws.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer an in-person maple syrup production workshop for beginners 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29. The class first meets at Shaw Brothers Construction Co., 341 Mosher Road, Gorham, and finishes at Nash Valley Farm, 79 Nash Road, Windham. Snow date is Saturday, Feb. 5.

The TLC Fiber Farm will be holding a Christmas open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Dec. 11 and 12. The rescue alpaca farm is located at 40 Horscents Lane, off of Route 220 in Waldoboro.

From Dec. 3-5, Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest will make shopping for holiday gifts stress-free and fun. Unique shops, artist-owned galleries, and tasty places to eat in a beautiful riverfront village are only part of the weekend appeal. Family-friendly activities, inspiring seasonal decorations, and lots of holiday cheer promise a memorable experience.
