Well, every year on May 22, readers around the world mark Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s birthday with a bit of a tribute to his most famous creation: the great detective himself, Sherlock Holmes.

Nelson A. “Sonny” Lash, 89, of Friendship, died May 13, 2025 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Sonny was born Nov. 29, 1935 in New Bedford, Mass., to Nelson J. Lash and Marie King Lash. Sonny’s family moved from New Bedford to Friendship when he was a young boy. He attended local schools and graduated from Waldoboro High School.
