Midcoast Conservancy Offers a Forest Bathing Workshop

The natural world offers many forms of respite and restoration. Forest therapy is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. In Japan it is called “shinrin yoku,” which translates to “forest bathing.” Studies have demonstrated a wide array of health benefits, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition.

Midcoast Conservancy Protects Key Parcel in Newcastle

Midcoast Conservancy purchased a high priority 57-acre addition to its Rev. Joseph Barth Memorial Demonstration and Experimental Forest from Nick and Sandra Barth. The Rev. Joseph Barth, with Nick Barth, founded the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association in 1966. Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association subsequently became a founding member of Midcoast Conservancy.

Waldoboro Library Art Auction Showcases Local Scenes

I had been working in my last column which I never got ready to send. I am sure you all have been looking for my column the whole month of August, but Aug. 6 I got up very ill. I was rushed to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Northeast Ambulance.

County Invites Public Comment on Hazard Mitigation Plan

Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission in collaboration with Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency request public comment on the 2021 hazard mitigation plan update. The public comment period is open from Tuesday, Sept. 21 through Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Geary Wayne Smith, a man beloved by family and friends, died peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Sept. 6, 2021, at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Dr. James Topping Hudson July 21, 1931 - Sept. 8, 2021

Dr. James Topping Hudson passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021. Jim was born in West Hartford, Conn., on July 21, 1931, to Wheaton Grenville and Jessie Topping Hudson. In 1940, the family moved to Freeport where they opened the Hudson Bay Guest House, a precursor to the many B&B’s now in Freeport.

Carl J. Wilms April 13, 1954 - Sept. 17, 2021

Carl J. Wilms, of Waldoboro, died Sept. 17, 2021, at an Augusta hospital as a result of complications from surgery. The son of Hugo J. Wilms and Vivian Johnson Wilms, he was born in Boston on April 13, 1954.
