Last week’s Waldoborough Historical Society’s “What is it?” photo was not successfully identified. Some guesses suggested the items were belt buckles, but they were in fact coffin plates. Most coffin plates from the 1800s in the past were buried with the deceased, but sometimes, families took them off and kept them. A number of them are displayed in the historical society’s museum.

WW&F Railway Opens for Season
On Aug. 7 the Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railway at 97 Cross Road, Alna will reopen to the public for the 2020 season with a special excursion at 5 p.m. to Milepost 8 over the railway’s newly constructed Mountain Extension.

His decision to leave the hospital to go home allowed for an enviable passing during these troubling times, one “safely” surrounded by family and friends with music, memories, a good dose of tears, and nary a single stranger.

River Arts in Damariscotta is announcing its first juried show in its new 36 Elm Street Plaza location.
