Descendants of the Segerstrom family and representatives of the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust and the town of Westport Island gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the Carl and Barbara Segerstrom Preserve at Squam Creek to the public Sunday, Aug. 6.

A crew from CBS News was in Wiscasset on Monday, July 24 to film a segment at Red’s Eats for “Sunday Morning.” The segment will air Sunday, July 30 or Sunday, Aug. 6, according to Red’s co-owner Cindy Collamore.
Wiscasset’s Lighthouse Restaurant Under New Management
A Round Pond lobsterman is the new owner of the Lighthouse Restaurant in Wiscasset, and catches all the lobster for the restaurant himself. The restaurant at the corner of Route 1 and Old Bath Road also serves barbecue, seafood, and many other items.
Wiscasset’s Hunters Breakfast to Close Friday
Since word spread that Hunters Breakfast, on Gardiner Road in Wiscasset, would close Friday, July 7, the restaurant has been very busy. It was so busy the morning of Monday, July 3, owner Laurie Ezzell and cook Cindy Allen had to close at 10 a.m. because they couldn’t keep up with the number of people coming in.

Petition to Save Wiscasset Planner in Circulation
Wiscasset Town Planner Ben Averill’s last day will be Friday, June 30, because voters rejected the planning department’s budget June 13. Now, however, business leaders are circulating a petition to hold a special town meeting where voters could reconsider the matter.
Wiscasset Gives PD Authority Over Harbor Master, Shellfish Warden
The Wiscasset Board of Selectmen voted 4-1 to give the Wiscasset Police Department authority over the positions of harbor master and shellfish warden and voted 3-0-2 to authorize the town manager to sign a contract to provide ambulance service to the town of Dresden on Tuesday, June 27.
Westport Islanders Take Care of Town Business
About 50 voters attended Westport Island’s annual town meeting Saturday, June 24. The voters not only took care of the 44 articles on the warrant, they learned the importance of dry hydrants on Westport Island, learned how and when they could change the amount to spend on a particular item, and appeared to have a good time doing so, with humor coming from both sides of the podium.

Wiscasset Landmark Le Garage to Close
The evening of Sunday, March 19, the staff of Le Garage received the news from owner Cheryl Rust that the restaurant will close April 30 after 40 years in business. The future of the building is not yet clear.
County Courthouse to Shuffle Offices
Visitors to the Lincoln County Courthouse after the first of April will see some changes in the location of the offices. According to County Administrator Carrie Kipfer, the changes in office locations are an effort to make the best use of space, giving more space to offices that need it and less to others that no longer need as much space as they have.

Le Garage owner Cheryl “Shep” Rust will receive the Maine Restaurant Association’s 2017 Bill Zoidis Lifetime Achievement Award during the association’s annual meeting at the Holiday Inn By the Bay in Portland on March 28.
