About 100 people attended an informational meeting with the Maine Department of Transportation on Thursday, Oct. 5 to discuss Wiscasset’s downtown traffic improvement project, which does not sit well with many residents and businesses in town.
Wiscasset Selectmen Vote to Oppose Removal of Existing Parking
The Wiscasset Board of Selectmen voted 3-2 to oppose the removal of parking spaces in Wiscasset on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The selectmen also voted 5-0 to request a meeting with Gov. Paul LePage and Maine Commissioner of Transportation David Bernhardt to discuss the removal of storefront parking in Wiscasset as part of the Maine Department of Transportation’s downtown traffic project.

Elizabeth “Betty” Pierce couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about on her 100th birthday Sept. 26. After all, she has celebrated many birthdays, and being 100 years old was no big deal, just one year older. She even asked her daughter not to make a big deal of it.
Two Bridges Regional Jail Names New Administrator
After a 2 1/2-month hiring process, the Lincoln and Sagadahoc Multicounty Jail Authority Board of Directors hired James Bailey as the new jail administrator. Bailey has been serving as interim administrator since last October.
POW/MIA Memorial to Include Names of Six from Lincoln County
The American Legion in Maine, with its affiliate organizations, is building a POW/MIA memorial at state headquarters in Winslow to honor and remember the Mainers who are still unaccounted for from past wars and conflicts.
Wiscasset Preservation Commission Receives Support at Public Hearing
The Wiscasset Historic Preservation Ordinance and the commission it established received strong support during a public hearing before the Wiscasset Planning Board about a proposal to repeal the ordinance. Voters will consider the repeal Nov. 7.

Ridge Barnes, a top scholar of the Wiscasset High School Class of 2015, now a junior at the University of Maine at Orono, has decided to become the fifth generation of Barnes men to farm the land his great-great-grandfather, Charles Israel Barnes, purchased during the Great Depression.
Wiscasset Math Teacher Retires After 40 Years
Tim Flanagan, of Wiscasset, has retired after 46 years as a teacher and 40 years at Wiscasset High School, now Wiscasset Middle High School.
Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Opens New Preserve on Westport Island

A crew from CBS News was in Wiscasset on Monday, July 24 to film a segment at Red’s Eats for “Sunday Morning.” The segment will air Sunday, July 30 or Sunday, Aug. 6, according to Red’s co-owner Cindy Collamore.
Wiscasset’s Lighthouse Restaurant Under New Management
A Round Pond lobsterman is the new owner of the Lighthouse Restaurant in Wiscasset, and catches all the lobster for the restaurant himself. The restaurant at the corner of Route 1 and Old Bath Road also serves barbecue, seafood, and many other items.
Wiscasset’s Hunters Breakfast to Close Friday
Since word spread that Hunters Breakfast, on Gardiner Road in Wiscasset, would close Friday, July 7, the restaurant has been very busy. It was so busy the morning of Monday, July 3, owner Laurie Ezzell and cook Cindy Allen had to close at 10 a.m. because they couldn’t keep up with the number of people coming in.

Petition to Save Wiscasset Planner in Circulation
Wiscasset Town Planner Ben Averill’s last day will be Friday, June 30, because voters rejected the planning department’s budget June 13. Now, however, business leaders are circulating a petition to hold a special town meeting where voters could reconsider the matter.
