When Medomak Valley High School sophomore pitcher Sidney Nicholls collected a 1-0 shutout win over Hermon to win the State Class B softball championships on Saturday, June 21, it was an extra special day for the Nicholls family. Twenty-five years ago, Sidney’s mother Katie (Mainville) Nicholls, who was also a sophomore at the time, was on the mound to lead Erskine Academy to the 2000 state title.

South Class B champions Medomak Valley High School (17-3) defeated North B champion Hermon (17-3) 1-0 at the University of Maine in Orono, to win the State Class B softball championship on Saturday, June 21. Third seed Medomak beat undefeated York 5-0 to win their seventh regional title to advance to the state championship game. Top seed Hermon beat Old Town for the North Regional crown.

Medomak Valley softball pitching ace Sidney Nichols fired up a perfect game in the Lady Panthers 15-0, three inning, mercy rule win over Lincoln Academy. Nichols struck out eight, walked none, and gave up no hits. Olivia Ball took the loss for the Eagles (2I,8H,6R,3B, 1K), and Bronwen Coffin closed out the game in the pitching circle (.2I, 5H, 9R, 2B, 0K).
The Panthers smashed 13 hits in the win. Arianna Sproul drove in three runs with two doubles and a single, and Claudia Feeley belted a three run homerun to lead the Panthers offense. Also hitting for Medomak were Nichols with a double and single, Kendall Simmons two singles (2RBI), Kytana Williamson a double (RBI), Grace Havener a double (2 RBI), and Peyton Eaton, Grace Townsend, Maddie Wilshire (RBI), and Ivy McCollett (RBI) a single each.

Lincoln Academy summer basketball camp for boys and girls will run from June 23 through July 11, under the direction of coach Ryan Ball and Phil Page. Grades 2-4 will run from 8:30-10 a.m., grades 5-7 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and grades 8-9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register at lincolnacademy.org.
