Each year on the second Saturday of August, the delicious smell of barbecued chicken fills the air in North Nobleboro, accompanied by great music, and family and friends from the community and beyond.

This year, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens will present the thirteenth annual Ina and Lewis Heafitz Endowed Lecture Series, from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31.

Come one, come all to become a history detective and experience archaeology first hand at the Colonial Pemaquid Historic Site. Drop in between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5.

The Old Bristol Historical Society will be hosting an open house and ice cream social from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 30 at the Bristol History Center at 2089 Bristol Road (Route 130). Visitors will be able to tour the new exhibits and enjoy ice cream treats.

The Congregational Church of Bristol in Bristol Mills will host its annual Fun Fest, or old-time country fair, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5.

For the sixth year running, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens will host educator and nature photographer Samuel Jaffe and The Caterpillar Lab from Wednesday through Sunday, July 26-30. A perennial favorite, this exhibit will highlight the diversity and ingenuity of some of New England’s most unusual caterpillars.

The Lincoln County Democratic Committee announced plans to host its annual Family Fun Day Lobster Bake, scheduled noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6. The event will occur under the Democratic big tent on the rolling landscape of Cider Hill Farm at 785 Main St. in Waldoboro.

The North Nobleboro Community Association is pleased to announce that North Nobleboro Day festivities will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at the community grounds on Upper East Pond Road.

The Newcastle Historical Society will host a talk by Steve Williams, owner and restorer of the Kavanagh Mansion, on Wednesday, July 12.
