Following a couple of busy weeks at the track, Wiscasset Speedway slowed the pace this weekend as they hosted a standard group 2 racing program. The night included four divisions of racing fun, featuring the Portland Glass Strictly Streets, T&L Automotive Modifieds, Wood Pellet Warehouse Late Models, and the Chestnut Auto Roadrunners.

Despite rain showers and overcast skies, the 19th annual Healthy Kids Strawberry Shortcake Shuffle 5K enjoyed record registration and provided a tasty reward for all the participants on Saturday, July 6 in Damariscotta. Volunteers served all of the 260 dishes of homemade strawberry shortcake that had been prepared.

More than 50 runners braved a steady rain to take part in the Edgecomb 250th birthday road race on Saturday, June 22 in Edgecomb.

Connor Daigle broke the event record while winning the Waldoboro Day 5K on Saturday, June 15 in Waldoboro.

On Saturday, May 25, more than 140 runners and walkers gathered under stellar skies in Nobleboro to celebrate the alewife migration with a healthy outdoor activity while also raising funds for the Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder.

Camden Hills rallied for three runs in the top of the extra eighth inning to surge past Medomak Valley 3-0 on Monday, May 20 in Waldoboro. Two of the top pitchers in midcoast high school softball squared off in an epic pitchers’ duel that was tied 0-0 after regulation. The Panthers committed five errors in the game, including three in the final inning that sank their chance to earn the win.

Medomak Valley rallied in the sixth inning to tie Camden Hills but lost 4-1 in eight innings on Monday, May 20 in Waldoboro. Gabe Lash drove in Aaron Reed from second base on a single to tie the game 1-1. Both teams held opposing batters scoreless in the final inning to send the match to overtime. The Panthers made a couple of costly errors in the 8th inning, as the Windjammers plated three runs. Medomak Valley could not get a rally going in the bottom of the extra inning off Camden Hills ace Hunter Bell and the Windjammers held on for the win.

An unfavorable weather pattern threatened to dampen yet another race day at Wiscasset Speedway on Saturday, but the track powered through and successfully hosted their first Group 2 night race of the season without any delays to the main racing program.

Baseball season is off to a rousing start.

With both opening days in the rearview, the season at Wiscasset Speedway is now rolling full steam ahead with many exciting events on the horizon. Saturday’s Group 1 racing action added to the anticipation, featuring some twists, turns and surprises that left fans on the edge of their seats throughout the program.
