Another impressive crowd of pumpkin enthusiasts from near and far flooded the Twin Villages for the 13th annual Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta over the holiday weekend, Oct. 12-14.

After a rainout last year, Wiscasset’s Scarecrowfest is making a big comeback, with not just a one-day event, but a full week of festivities.

There were clear skies, anticipation, wet clothes, and a floating treasure chest at this year’s Damariscotta Pumpkinfest Regatta, held in Damariscotta Harbor on Monday, Oct. 14.

Ever since he heard about the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, the world’s first nonstop, single-handed, round-the-world yacht race, in 1968, Newcastle resident and internationally known author Nigel Calder has been cruising by boat around different parts of the globe.

Despite a competitive bid process, Newcastle received one bid, at $1,786,891.75, for the reconstruction of Academy Hill Road.

Edwin Pierpont, of Jefferson, reclaimed the state record for heaviest pumpkin and also broke the record for heaviest green squash at the 13th annual Damariscotta Pumpkinfest weigh-off Sunday, Oct. 6.

A local businessman and former Wiscasset selectman was one of 33 veterans to receive a hero’s welcome upon his return from a trip to Washington, D.C. with Honor Flight Maine.

Action for Animals Maine, a new Lincoln County nonprofit, financially assists families who cannot afford emergency services and treatment for ill pets.

Representatives of the American Legion and Maine’s congressional delegation gathered at the Legion’s state headquarters in Winslow on Saturday, Sept. 28 to dedicate a new memorial to service members from Maine who went missing in action or were taken as a prisoner of war and remain unaccounted for.
