Stephen Lawrence Pitcher, 76, died Nov. 11, 2023 at his home in Boothbay Harbor. Steve was born Feb. 11, 1947 in Boothbay Harbor to Lawrence H. Pitcher Sr. and Rose Dorr Pitcher. Steve attended Boothbay Harbor schools.

Ruth Janet Bryant March 17, 1931 - Nov. 21, 2023

Ruth Janet Bryant, 92, of Edgecomb, passed away on the evening of Nov. 21, 2023 at LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus, in Damariscotta. Born on March 17, 1931 in Medford, Mass., she was the daughter of Frederick S. and Edith Poor Bryant.

Frederick Synnott Morse Jan. 30, 1936 - Nov. 18, 2023

Frederick Synnott Morse, 87, of Phippsburg, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023. He was born to James and Winifred (Blaisdell) Morse on Jan. 30, 1936. He was predeceased by his wife, Sharron; and is survived by his children, Dianna Morse, Barbara Moore, James Morse, and Edward Morse. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and extended family, including cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. take a self-paced tour through rooms decorated with gorgeous greens and holiday decorations inspired by the history of the house from the early 19th- mid-20th centuries.

Newcastle History Fire around Town

Last month, I wrote of the beginnings of a fire company in Newcastle and Damariscotta in 1896, and how the towns worked together to get buildings and equipment to defend the area. Today, all the local fire companies work together in mutual aid.
