Gorden Edwin Simmons Sr., 81, of Friendship, passed away peacefully, yet unexpectedly, at his home on Memorial Day, May 29, 2023, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

Sherburne Prescott de Garmo, of Boothbay, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023 at Maine Medical Center. He was a renaissance man of many talents, a woodworker, artist, mechanic, and sculptor who enjoyed creating beautiful and functional pieces for his home.
Elise Isabel Andersen Feb. 19, 1955 - May 4, 2023
Elise Isabel Andersen, lifelong resident of Boothbay, died unexpectedly at her home May 4. She was 68. Elise was born Feb. 19, 1955 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor, the fourth of six children born to Weston and Brenda Andersen, the pioneering Maine craftspeople who founded Andersen Design and Studio.
William J. Robinson Jr. Service Announcement
A memorial service for William J. Robinson Jr., who passed away on Oct. 7, 2022, will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 18 in the learning center at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park in Bristol. He will be laid to rest privately at a family cemetery in Nobleboro.

Midcoast Literacy’s Annual Celebration Recognizes Students, Volunteers
Midcoast Literacy held its annual meeting and celebration in Bath on May 21, celebrating 53 years of providing free literacy services in Lincoln, Sagadahoc, and northern Cumberland counties. The festive picnic brought together board members, staff, tutors, learners, supporters, and their families to mark the organization’s accomplishments in the past year.

Dutch Neck Schoolhouse, the original one-room schoolhouse on Dutch Neck, next to the historic St. Paul’s Union Chapel, will host a sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, June 9-10 featuring an assortment of antiques; household and decorative items, vintage men’s and women’s clothing and more.
Forestry for Maine Birds Workshop
From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, all are invited to join Sally Stockwell, of Maine Audubon, and Logan Johnson, of the Forest Stewards Guild, at Hidden Valley Nature Center to learn how to manage forestlands to enhance habitat for birds and other wildlife.
