Wiscasset Voters Repeal Preservation Ordinance, Elect Three Selectmen
Wiscasset voters elected Kimberly Andersson, Pamela Dunning, and Sarah Whitfield in a six-way race for three seats on the board of selectmen. During the annual town meeting by referendum Tuesday, Sept. 8, the voters also repealed the town’s historic preservation ordinance and approved ordinance changes to allow the redevelopment of the former Wiscasset Primary School.

Beginning with the 1942 season, professional baseball in the United States started to look very different. With Pearl Harbor having been bombed by the Japanese just a few months before, many were wondering if the major league season should continue as normal. The young men who played in the majors were already enlisting in the Army, and some thought it would be disrespectful to the war effort if the season were to continue like any other year.

“Identifying New England’s Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms” is the subject of a two-part course that will include an evening virtual class, followed by an afternoon at Midcoast Conservancy’s Hidden Valley Nature Center for a foraging hike. The webinar will be held Friday, Sept. 25 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Participants will then meet Saturday, Sept. 26 from 1 – 4 p.m.
