Tuition-Free Summer Courses for High School Students Available

Through a partnership between the Maine Department of Education, the University of Maine, and the University of Maine Machias, tuition is waived for all qualified Maine high school students, covering full tuition for up to 12 college credits per year at the two universities. Eligible students are able to earn college credit while still in high school.

Zoom Course on Backyard Birds

Lee Emmons, a local newspaper columnist and nature presenter, is offering a two-hour course through Zoom on Maine’s backyard birds. The course will cover 20 common species, as well as the basics of bird conservation.

The memorial service for Elizabeth Bickford, originally scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at the Damariscotta Baptist Church, has been postponed because of the ongoing limitations on gatherings. A new date will be announced as soon as those details are finalized.

Rubbish! New garbage recovery model “one bin, all in”

Coastal Resources of Maine, the state’s newest solid waste recovery facility in Hampden, opened its doors in April 2019. The facility receives most of its trash and recyclables comingled in the same loads. According to Coastal Resources Director of Community Services, Shelby Wright, the facility has dubbed this process “one bin, all in.” It means that for most of the facility’s 115 municipal customers, the familiar way of recycling has changed.

In an effort to help supply the community with food during COVID-19, Pemaquid Falls Farm has begun offering a weekly online farmers market at pemaquidfallsfarm.com where customers can safely shop for local produce and food products for curbside pickup at the farm.

Teacher, actress, supporter of the arts, and generous spirit Diane Lind was born on April 20, 1937, in Malden, Mass. and was a longtime resident of Reading, Mass. She passed away on May 15, 2020 after a brief illness.

CLC YMCA Releases Reopening Plan and Increases Services

In response to the phased outline for reopening businesses in Maine, Central Lincoln County YMCA has set a reopening date for June 1. CLC Y’s leadership team and COVID-19 task force have developed reopening guidelines utilizing the CDC and Maine government’s guidelines, as well as recommendations from Y-USA, Redwoods, LincolnHealth, and American Camping Association.

Library to Offer Curbside Services

The Waldoboro Public Library will be offering curbside pickup services beginning Wednesday, May 13, during the following hours: Monday, 12-6 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
