Claudette Jean Jones, 83, of Cushing, passed peacefully in the comfort of her home on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022. Claudette was born in Belfast on July 21, 1938, to parents Cecil Tower and Elsie Sanborn Tower.

Valentine’s Day Bake Sale in Round Pond

Helping Hands of Round Pond will hold a sale of homemade sweets just in time for Valentine’s Day. The Valentine-themed bake sale will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m., or until the sweets run out, on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Round Pond Fire Station, Route 32. A variety of handmade sweets will be available.

Learning Together A Little Comfort Makes a Big Difference

It’s the end of the day at Great Salt Bay Community School and K-8 school counselor Jill Davis is restocking the comfort closet, a cubby near the entrance of the school stocked with clothes, toiletries and food. These essential items are available for all students to take as they need, free of charge.

Vernon Allan Johnston Aug. 6, 1955 - Jan. 31, 2022

Vernon Allan Johnston died peacefully on Jan. 31, 2022, at the Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, Va., following a period of deteriorating health. Allan was born on Aug. 6, 1955, in Damariscotta to the late Vernon Johnston and Lorraine (Perry) Johnston.

Jeff Bradbury Memorial Ice Fishing Derby

The second annual Jeff Bradbury Memorial Ice Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19. Tickets are available at Damariscotta Hardware, in Damariscotta, and at Louis Doe Home Center and Mail It 4 U in Newcastle. Tickets will also be available the day of the derby from 8 to 9 a.m. at the state boat launch on Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson.

St. Cecilia Chamber Choir Holding Auditions

St. Cecilia Chamber Choir is holding auditions for all voice parts as it begins preparing Brahms’ delightful “Liebeslieder Waltzes.” Published in 1870 and setting the poetry of Georg Friedrich Daumer, the charming waltzes were an immediate success for Brahms, who wrote them in homage to the popular “Waltz King,” Johann Strauss, Jr., as well as to his friend, Franz Schubert.

MaineHealth Refines Return to Work Policy

MaineHealth is altering slightly its policy with respect to how care team members return to work after a case of COVID-19, dropping a requirement for a negative antigen test following a completed quarantine period, according to a news release. The change does not conflict with existing CDC guidance for returning health care team members to the workplace after contracting COVID-19.

Legion Ice Fishing Tournament Feb. 6

The Wells-Hussey American Legion Post No. 42, of Damariscotta, will hold its annual ice fishing tournament on Sunday, Feb. 6. Weigh-ins will be at the Legion post at 247 Main St. in Damariscotta. Fish must be registered by 4 p.m.

Support Group for Grandparents, Caregivers
