Castner Creek Community Forest in Damariscotta is a diamond in the rough. Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust acquired the 85-acre property in 2019. It was part of the Piper Village Subdivision. In 2020 University of Maine forestry graduate student Noah Begin did a site analysis of the property.
Algae Bloom at Damariscotta Mills Potentially Harmful
Water at the popular Damariscotta Mills swimming area turned blue-green with algae late last week, and signs warning of a cyanobacteria outbreak advised swimmers to swim at their own risk at both the bridge area and swimming beach.

Damariscotta Lions Win Babe Ruth Championship Midcoast Babe Ruth
Third seed Damariscotta Lions won the Midcoast Babe Ruth championship on July 11 in a best of three series against Granite Coast. The Lions upset second seed Rockland Ford on July 10 to advance to the championship series. Granite Coast got past PG Willey and knocked off top seed Waldoboro 9-7 on July 10 to advance to the finals.
Children’s Book About Augusta ‘Goose Lady’ Released
The goose on Eastern Avenue in Augusta was a famous landmark to many Lincoln County residents who traveled up Route 17 on their way to Augusta. Now, the story of the goose and the woman who owned it has been immortalized in a new children’s book by a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist.

Nicholas MacPhee, of Walpole, broke a world record at the Old Orchard Beach Scottish Highland Games on June 5. MacPhee won all events at the games, including setting a world record in the weight over bar event.

Cape Elizabeth softball defended their home diamond for a 1-0 win over Medomak Valley on Sat., June 12 in a South Class B Regional semi-final game. After six and a half scoreless innings, and with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Caper Esme Song hit a walk off single scoring Clara Parker for the winning run.

Sixth seed Medomak Valley softball upset third seed Morse in a South Class B quarter-final game on June 10 in Bath. The Lady Panthers rallied in the top of the seventh to win 8-7.

Medomak’s Daigle Wins State Class B 3,200-Meter Race
Medomak Valley junior Connor Daigle was denied the opportunity to run for a cross-country state championship last fall due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the school, but he made up for it in grand fashion on Saturday, June 5 at the state Class B track and field championships in Bath.
York Baseball Stops Panthers in Their Tracks York 13 - Medomak 3
Sixth seed York baseball defeated Medomak Valley 13-3 on June 8 in a South Class B preliminary game in York. The game was delayed due to a thunder storm, and ended after six innings due to a 10 run mercy ruling. Mather collected the win, and Isaac McCollett took the loss.
Wells Baseball Clips the Eagles Wells 4 - Lincoln 0
Third seed Wells defeated 14th seed Lincoln Academy 4-0 in a South Class B Regional preliminary match-up on June 8 at Wells. Brown and Ramsey combined in the shut out win. Nathan True had a solid outing in the loss (6H, 2B, 10K).
