A celebration of life to honor the life and legacy of Laura Honey, who passed away on Aug. 2, 2023, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023, from 1-4 p.m., with a memorial and remembrance ceremony at 2 p.m., at Fisherman’s Wharf Inn, in Boothbay Harbor.

Gerald C. Reed Jr., 73, died on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023 at LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus. For most of his working life, he worked for Reed Forest Products. In later years, he was retired and took care of his rental properties.

Gene Warren Boothby, 86, of Bremen, passed away on the morning of Aug. 21, 2023 at St. Andrews Village, in Boothbay Harbor, after a period of declining health. He was born in Portland, at the Eye and Ear Hospital, on April 3, 1937, to the late Ann Elizabeth (Boucher) and Weston Chase Boothby.

Marion MacKenney passed away peacefully, on the night of July 22, 2023, after years of struggling with dementia. Her beloved husband, Bob, was by her side, where he has stayed the last few years.
Charles Edwin Welles III Aug. 17, 1933 - June 12, 2023
Born on Aug. 17, 1933, in Troy, N.Y., Charles Edwin Welles III brought great joy to his father and mother, Charles and Mary V. Welles. As a young child, he lived with his parents in both Bennington, Vt., and in Bermuda. Sadly, at the tender age of 6, he lost his mother after she succumbed to pneumonia in 1938. Charles attended a Bennington one-room schoolhouse, The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, and the South Kent School in Connecticut, where he managed to graduate with grades sufficient to earn his admission to Yale College. During his teenage years, Charles gained a stepmother who loved him, Gertrude “Johnne” Talbot.

Bruce C. Miller, 83, died Aug. 12 at the Sussman House in Rockport. He was born Feb. 19, 1940 in Waldoboro to Chester Miller and Evelyn (Ralph) Miller. Bruce grew up in Waldoboro and graduated from Waldoboro High School in the class of 1959. Bruce married Elsie (Collamore) Miller in 1959.

Sigrid M. Sproul, 78, passed away on the morning of Aug. 10, 2023 at her home in South Bristol. Sigrid was born in 1944 in Röhrsdorf Schlesien, part of Germany prior to World War II. In 1947, her family was forced to leave, and she endured time in a refugee camp before moving on to Sonneberg Thurigen. In 1949, her family moved to Wiesbaden and reunited with her father, who had been a prisoner of war.

Merrill G. Leavens, of Waldoboro and Quincy, Mass., passed away on Aug. 17, 2023 at the age of 99, surrounded by his loving family in the home he built in Squantum, Mass. in 1948. Born in Dorchester, Mass., to Josephine (Ulrich) and Merrill W. Leavens. He graduated from Boston Mechanics High School before serving in the Navy during WWII. He was stationed at Clark Airbase and Palawan Island in the Pacific and served as a 3rd class aviation metalsmith.
