Applications Available for Community Tree of Giving
The Central Lincoln County YMCA is accepting applications for families in need of gifts this holiday season. Those in need may pick up an application from the CLC YMCA after Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Halloween Potluck and Scary Readings at Opera House

LA Students to Host Cornhole Tournament for Maine Veterans
On Saturday, Nov. 2, Lincoln Academy’s edLab alternative education program will host their second-annual cornhole tournament to benefit Boothbay V.E.T.S., an organization that works to build emergency temporary shelters for homeless veterans in Maine.

Inanna, Sisters in Rhythm, will fill Broad Bay Congregational Church with the sounds of African drums and chanting in a concert for all ages at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.
Towns Sponsor Free Family Films At Harbor Theater
The towns of Boothbay Harbor, Southport, and Boothbay will once again sponsor five free family movies for everyone in the community. This year, Harbor Theater published a survey to encourage families to select the movies they would like to see during each holiday period. The respondents who helped choose which movies to show.

Newcastle Approves Zoning Amendments for Retail Firearm Sales
In a special town meeting that lasted roughly 15 minutes, Newcastle residents voted 43-5 in favor of amending the town’s core zoning code to include retail firearm sales facilities.

Alma Black, 103, of Cushing, passed away peacefully at home, in the early hours of Oct. 11. Alma was born March 22, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Nelle (Murphy) Winchebaugh, in Friendship. She was born the middle of five sisters, Grace (Bill Williams), Arlene (Edward Schultz), Marie (Vernon Studley), Joan (Len Harlow), Ava (Jim Phillips), and one brother, Francis.
John William ‘Bill’ Dawson Sept. 28, 1940 - Oct. 7, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John William “Bill” Dawson, 84, on Oct. 7, 2024. Bill left this world peacefully, surrounded by his beloved children, Kathryn Cook and Michael Dawson, in Orlando, Fla. Born on Sept. 28, 1940, in Modoc, Ind., he was the son of the late William Ray Dawson and Lulu Bell Raines. He was one of the last surviving of 16 children. Bill was a warm-hearted individual whose spirit brought joy to all who crossed his path. His kindness and genuine nature touched the lives of many, leaving an everlasting legacy in the hearts of those who knew him.

Michael Lorin Mason, of Waldoboro, born May 5, 1954, went to be with his savior, at Cove’s Edge on Oct. 10, at age 70. He was the son of Carleton and Myrtle (Clifford) Mason.
