Hello and happy October to all my friends. My mom, as you can imagine, is super, super happy for her favorite month to finally be here. The yard is filled with pumpkins, a corn stalk or two, and the Halloween guys in the basement are out and ready to greet the season.

Halloween Potluck and Scary Readings at Opera House

The historic, and some say haunted, Opera House at Boothbay Harbor will host its annual community Halloween potluck dinner and scary readings event on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The house and stage will be decked out for the season and will serve as the perfect backdrop for performers Kevin Kiley and Frances Mercanti-Anthony.

Towns Sponsor Free Family Films At Harbor Theater

The towns of Boothbay Harbor, Southport, and Boothbay will once again sponsor five free family movies for everyone in the community. This year, Harbor Theater published a survey to encourage families to select the movies they would like to see during each holiday period. The respondents who helped choose which movies to show.

Dorothy Blanchard May 19, 1939 - Oct. 1, 2024

Dorothy Blanchard, 85, of Newcastle, passed away on Oct. 1, 2024, in Falmouth, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on May 19, 1939, in Dover-Foxcroft, daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Bentley) Anderson.

Alma Black March 22, 1921 - Oct. 11, 2024

Alma Black, 103, of Cushing, passed away peacefully at home, in the early hours of Oct. 11. Alma was born March 22, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Nelle (Murphy) Winchebaugh, in Friendship. She was born the middle of five sisters, Grace (Bill Williams), Arlene (Edward Schultz), Marie (Vernon Studley), Joan (Len Harlow), Ava (Jim Phillips), and one brother, Francis.

John William ‘Bill’ Dawson Sept. 28, 1940 - Oct. 7, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John William “Bill” Dawson, 84, on Oct. 7, 2024. Bill left this world peacefully, surrounded by his beloved children, Kathryn Cook and Michael Dawson, in Orlando, Fla. Born on Sept. 28, 1940, in Modoc, Ind., he was the son of the late William Ray Dawson and Lulu Bell Raines. He was one of the last surviving of 16 children. Bill was a warm-hearted individual whose spirit brought joy to all who crossed his path. His kindness and genuine nature touched the lives of many, leaving an everlasting legacy in the hearts of those who knew him.

Michael Lorin Mason May 5, 1954 - Oct. 10, 2024

Michael Lorin Mason, of Waldoboro, born May 5, 1954, went to be with his savior, at Cove’s Edge on Oct. 10, at age 70. He was the son of Carleton and Myrtle (Clifford) Mason.
