Round Pond

If you are coming down Route 32 from Bremen to Round Pond there is a bridge on the town line called The Kitty Breskin. For the life of me I had never heard that name before, of course thinking that it is a memorial bridge and related to someone in the area. I have been asking people around town about it and typically the answer is that they have wondered the same thing as well. I finally had the sense to Google it and found out that she is a woman who lives in Boothbay who was integral in the design and construction of the bridge. Mystery solved.

MVHS Writing Contest Winner Announced

On Tuesday, March 26, Teagan Aiken was named the first place winner of the Last Monday of the Month Writing Challenge at Medomak Valley High School. The writing prompt was “Returning Light” and/or “New Beginnings.”

Kay Tobler Liss Guest Of April Sounding Board

Novelist Kay Tobler Liss will be the featured author at The Sounding Board on Thursday, April 11 at Merry Barn Writers’ Retreat. Liss’ most recent work, “Coming Home,” was released in December 2023 to much praise.

Bremen Library Art Reception Rescheduled

Due to the impending snowstorm and closure of the Bremen Library, the artist’s reception for artist Elizabeth S. Palmer has been rescheduled from Thursday, April 4, to Thursday, April 11, from 4-6 p.m.

Hilda Ives Wiley, of Brunswick, died at home on March 28, 2024, from colon cancer. She was 46 years old.

Phillip A. Applin, 75, of Waldoboro, passed away at Maine Medical Center on March 27, 2024. Phillip was born on Nov. 5, 1948, to parents Robert and Ruth (Jones) Applin.

Ellen Gordon

Ellen Gordon passed away peacefully at Cove’s Edge on March 29, 2024, surrounded by her family. Ellen was born in Washington, D.C. She attended the National Cathedral School and went on to Mount Holyoke College and George Washington University.
