Saturday was a busy day in Whitefield. The library had its annual fall festival. Seeing kids painting pumpkins, their faces, and their nails added such a wonderful element. Besides the many scrumptious looking baked items, the vegetarian chili was the best I’ve ever had and my husband said the meat chili was just as delicious. Music by Rusty Hinges was, as always, toe tapping fun. A new QR code payment method was unveiled and worked like a charm.

CTL Students Published in Skidompha Library Literary Magazine
Thirteen students from the Center for Teaching and Learning in Edgecomb had their writing published in the most recent issue of EPOCH, a creative magazine developed by Skidompha Public Library and edited by local teens.
Novel Jazz Swings Back to Skidompha to Benefit Little Food Pantry
Novel Jazz returns to the Skidompha Public Library in Damariscotta on Friday, Oct. 27 to provide an evening of jazz to benefit Skidompha’s Little Food Pantry.

Grades 3-4 have begun weekly field trips to the Darling Marine Center to learn about the ocean and what’s in it. On their first visit they learned that the Damariscotta River is “brackish,” which means it has a combination of saltwater and fresh water. They also received a tour of the center and got to investigate a variety of creatures in touch tanks.
New Artwork at Maine Tasting Center
Nobleboro artist Elizabeth Palmer has two paintings displayed in the Maine Tasting Center, at 506 Old Bath Road in Wiscasset, which is open from noon to 6 p.m. seven days a week until Sunday, Oct. 29.
Round Pond
The Eveready Bunny, aka Kendrick Wilson, moved back to his home this past Monday after an eight-month long stay with Lara Decker. Lara and her son, Jack, dedicated themselves to providing him with a home full of laugher, delicious meals, and lots of care and love. There were also other friends that pitched in along the way. Lara, Tom Cusick and Judi Olson will continue to help him out at home along with Comfort Keepers.

Two special events coming up that are not to miss! The Met Live in HD returns for its 2023-2024 season, presenting nine incredible operas live from the stage in New York City. Kicking off the season is the new production and Met premiere, “Dead Man Walking.” And a special documentary feature about the incredible Umberto Eco comes to the big screen for two screenings only. Don’t filmmaker Davide Ferrario’s immersion into all things Eco and his library of the world.

Bill Blodgett will tell you it doesn’t matter what hat he’s wearing. He’s the same person, whether it’s as county commissioner, high school teacher, representative in the Maine Legislature, or town select board member. At age 87, he’s lived a long life that also includes military service in the Army and raising two sons and two daughters with his wife, Carol, who never gossiped and was kind to everyone.
Twin Villages Foodbank Farm 5K Trail Run, Mile Walk/Fun Run Nov. 23
The sixth annual Foodbank Farm 5K trail run and mile walk/fun run will be held at Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust’s Salt Bay Farm on Belvedere Road in Damariscotta at 9 a.m., Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23. This informal, volunteer-organized event is a benefit for Twin Villages Foodbank Farm.

Oyster Growers, Coastal Rivers Organize Annual Damariscotta River Cleanup
In what has become annual tradition, on Oct. 3 staff and volunteers from over a dozen local businesses and organizations spent the afternoon picking up trash along the shoreline of the Damariscotta River.
