Howard W. Shaw, 81, of Nobleboro, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Nov. 1, 2021 at the Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

In my yard, the maple leaves have already fallen. But the brown oak leaves will stubbornly hang on for a few more weeks. By late November, nearly all of our deciduous trees will be bare and skeletal. The last of the season’s color will have faded away, a testament to the passage of time and the onset of another Maine winter.

Morris Farm will host three classes in November and December, beginning with an earring workshop taught by Barbara Gage from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6. Learn how to make three different styles of earrings using headpins, bead caps, and wires. Supplies will be provided.

Instead of the annual chicken pie supper this fall, Kings Mills Union Hall Association in Whitefield is offering a takeout sale of the ever-popular chicken pies, made from organically raised and processed birds.

2022 Calendars Available from Damariscotta Historical Society

The Damariscotta Historical Society’s 2022 calendar is available, featuring 13 historical pictures. This year’s images include the first snowmobile in Damariscotta from around 1920. Dr. Robert Belknap drove it around in the winter to see patients.

Midcoast Humane Appoints Interim Executive Director

The board of directors of Midcoast Humane, a well-established nonprofit providing animal welfare services to 40 municipalities in the state of Maine, recently announced the appointment of Jess Townsend as its interim executive director.

Chicken Pies To-Go in Whitefield

The traditional and ever-popular chicken pie supper held at Kings Mills Union Hall in Whitefield will take on a new twist this year, as the group will instead hold a takeout pie sale by reservation on Sunday, Nov. 7.

Funds Needed for Pigs and Piglets

The Morris Farm Trust in Wiscasset has taken in a family of pigs, plus its sow just had eight piglets. The farm needs funds for pig feed, vet care, hay for bedding and feed.  Any monetary donations will help make an impact.

Lonnie B. Zepfler March 18, 1957 - Oct. 17, 2021

Lonnie B. Zepfler, 64, died at his home in Nobleboro on Oct. 17, 2021. He was born March 18, 1957, in Damariscotta to Fred B. Zepfler and Joan E. Barton Zepfler. He grew up in the Newcastle area attending Franklin Grammar School and Lincoln Academy.

Crafts Hosts Office Hours Oct. 30
