The paintings of Marcia Brandwein on currently on display at the Bristol Area Library and feature her love of trees. Brandwein graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. with a bachelor of fine arts in illustration. Her career then led her to home textile design. For over 30 years she created textiles for major home textile stores culminating in the interior design for the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas.

Philip Stephen Cohen, 51, of Waldoboro, died suddenly at his home on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020. He had been a practicing attorney in Waldoboro for 26 years. He was a member of the Maine Bar and U.S. District Court.

Conservancy to Host Full Moon Paddle
Midcoast Conservancy will host a full moon paddle at its Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 6 – 8 p.m. Participants can enjoy the silvery glow of the “full harvest moon” from canoes provided by the nature center as they glide along Little Dyer Pond after a beautiful mile-and-a half hike into the woods.

There was a moose on the loose in the area over the weekend, with many being fortunate to see him and watch his swim from Southern Point to Northern Point. Jan John, who lives on Southern Point, was working in her gardens when their dog, Ella, started barking. When Jan turned around, a huge male moose was standing in the grass not 20 feet from her.
Local Business Community Reports Uncertainty in COVID-19 Survey
A recent survey of the local business community about the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic shows that 68% of respondents have had a decrease in sales this year, with 25% reporting sales at less than half of last year’s. Another 10% said year-to-date sales matched the same period in 2019, while 20% reported an increase over last year’s sales.

Historical Society to Sell To-Go Apple Pies
Because the Nobleboro Historical Society cannot hold its 15th annual “AppleFest,” the society has decided to hold a “Drive-By Apple Pie Buy.” It will be at Nobleboro Central School in the front parking area on Saturday, Oct. 3, starting at 10 a.m. until the 100 homemade apple pies are sold out.

Charles Merle Vanner, 68, of Washington, passed away peacefully from a sudden illness with his loving family at his side on Sept. 22, 2020 at the Sussman House in Rockport. Charles was born on Feb. 10, 1952 in Gardiner to Merle E. Vanner and Alberta (Sedgley) Vanner.
