In Nature Wild Baby Moon

People have been keeping track of the changing seasons by naming full moons for eons. Of course, different people in different times had different names. That gives me an excuse to invent some moon names of my own. My “Egg Moon” is just passed, or perhaps a “Wild Baby Moon,” though there are some second broods and late nesting birds still to go. Goldfinches, for example, are strict vegetarians, so they wait for an abundance of seed.

Shannon’s Unshelled Expands

Shannon’s Unshelled, in the heart of Boothbay Harbor’s historical waterfront, is expanding. After seven years, owner Shannon Schmelzer has decided to bring in a new shack, almost twice the size of the original, to be able to keep up with continued demand and to make room for new equipment.

John “Ed” Edward Knapp, 85, of Nobleboro, passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of July 5, 2020, with his loving wife and daughter by his side.

New Farmers Market in Waldoboro

Waldoboro is opening the Long Cove Farmers Market to support local farmers, producers, and fishermen on Mondays from 3 – 6 p.m. from July 6 to October 12, at East Forty Farm on Route 220.

Shirley (Eckler) Pooler, 83, of Port Crane, N.Y., went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 30, 2020 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Despite the annual spring alewife festival in Damariscotta Mills being canceled due to COVID-19, the festival committee is still raffling a locally designed and crafted queen-sized alewife festival quilt.

Heartwood Fundraiser Supports Local and Abroad

“Support local business now and remember to dream the future” is the two-pronged focus of Heartwood Theater’s annual online raffle, with tickets still available for purchase until July 10.

Mary Ann (Ornowski) Blycher, 84, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2020 at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport.

Midcoast Ecumenical Diaper Bank

Though the annual ecumenical diaper drive could not occur as is tradition, diapers were still donated by mail. Continued donations may be sent by mail to Ecumenical Diaper Bank, c/o Midcoast Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 714, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Check donations should be made out to Damariscotta Baptist Church with “diapers” on the memo line.
