Over the last week, two iconic bells found their historic roosts again in Lincoln County. The return of these bells forms a little lump in our throat. The bells themselves, like the spirit of this community, needed no replacement, only the structures that supported them.

Jeffery M. Hilton, 71, of Nobleboro passed away peacefully on Aug. 13, 2024, at his home with his family and beloved dog, Petty, by his side. Jeff, aka Mole Man, was born on Feb. 10, 1953, son of Jerome M. Hilton and Marion Creamer Hilton.

Joyce L. Benner March 4, 1923 - Aug. 28, 2024

Joyce L. Benner, age 101, of Windsor and formerly of Waldoboro, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, peacefully with her daughter Kim by her side. Joyce was born in Waldoboro on March 4, 1923, the daughter of Millard and Lillian (Rosco) Creamer.

Victor ‘Vic’ Macomber

Victor “Vic” Macomber, 94, passed away on Aug. 29, 2024, in Falmouth. Born in Rochester, N.Y., he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1952 before embarking on a distinguished 21-year career in the U.S. Air Force. He flew 219 combat missions during the Vietnam War, commanding the Misty squadron, and conducting reconnaissance over the Ho Chi Minh trail, for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Mary Lee Benner Melvin

Mary Lee Benner Melvin, 80, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully at her home on Sept. 6, 2024. She was born to Myron R. Benner and Virginia M. Beckett Benner Quimby in Waldoboro, June 1944.

The next public supper will be Wednesday, Sept. 18. The menu will consist of carrot soup, biscuits, salad, chicken pot pie, and gingerbread with whipped cream.
