Lillian Schauer, 87, formerly of Greenwich, Conn. and Lakewood, N.J., passed away at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta, on the morning of Aug. 16, 2024, after a period of declining health. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on May 6, 1937, she was the daughter of John and Julie (Wittine) Juray.
Call for Buskers for 2024 Pumpkinfest
Musicians, singers, magicians, and performers are invited to audition for this year’s Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta. The Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta is held every year during Indigenous Peoples Day weekend. This year’s festival runs from Saturday, Oct.12 through Monday, Oct. 14. The buskers are a beloved part of the Pumpkinfest tradition, and return this year along with the Giant Pumpkin Parade and Pumpkin Regatta.

Driving by Phyllis Loney’s house (the old Floyd and Bertha Leeman home) and noticing this tree stopped me in my tracks. It is bad enough that the burning bushes in the area are getting that faint tinge of red on their tops, but this is an undeniable hint that fall is on its way and there is not much we can do to hinder it. Autumn is a lovely time of year, one of everyone’s favorites, it is just too bad that it is not followed by spring!

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the town of Edgecomb is offering a day of activities at the Schmid Preserve as part of the year-long celebration of its 250th birthday.
Local Authors To Be At Maine Book Fest
Authors Kay Tobler Liss, of Jefferson, and Laurel Dodge, of Nobleboro, will have a booth at this year’s Maine Book Fest in Waterville on Sunday, Aug. 25. The first festival was held last year in Hallowell, and this year festival has at least doubled in the number of authors and activities to take place, according to the founder, Maddie Smith.

Alfred “Al” Barter, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at his Florida home on Aug.14, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on June 28, 1953, Al’s vibrant spirit and unwavering kindness touched the lives of everyone he met.
Louise Abbot Feb. 27, 1928 - July 27, 2024
Louise Abbot, born Roberta Louise Fisher on Feb. 27, 1928, died peacefully in her sleep on July 27 at Edgewood retirement community in North Andover, Mass. She was 96 years old. She survived her husband, David Abbot; and her previous husband, R. Andrew Fletcher Jr., with whom she raised her four children, Andy III, Bob, Phebe, and Henry. She had recently lost her son, Bob, with whom she was close, in January of this year. She was a devoted mother who wanted the best for each of us.
