Wiscasset Elementary Hydroponic Garden Bears Basil

Fourth grade students at Wiscasset Elementary School recently harvested basil from the hydroponic garden, provided by a Maine Agriculture in the Classroom grant. The students planted the basil when school began in September and have been taking notes in their science journals as they watched the growth occur.

Bringing Food Home The Time Of Year For Roasted Veggies

As we enter this dark time of year, I don’t think I am alone as I seek warm, comforting foods. Roasted root veggies are a staple in my kitchen (and probably yours) during these months. They store well, are affordable, and are easy to find at grocery stores and farmers markets alike. And they are versatile so you can mix and match them however you prefer.        

‘Celebration’ Opening at River Arts

A special “Celebration” show decks the halls at River Arts in Damariscotta. The gallery is filled with fine art and fine craft created by Maine artists for the holiday season. This extravaganza features over a hundred artists displaying over 300 artworks.

These last few months seem to have dragged on longer than usual. While there are plenty of factors this feeling could be attributed to, we’re choosing to believe it’s because we’ve had to spend an increasing amount of time driving around Damariscotta looking for parking.

Joan Elizabeth Hohorst (nee Dorau), born on Sept. 26, 1930, to Esther and Herbert Dorau, passed away on Nov. 6, 2024 at the age of 94. She was the cherished sister of Jean Arnold, John Dorau, and Jane McPhee.

Charlotte Amalie Peterson Service Announcement

A celebration of life for Charlotte Amalie Peterson, who passed away on Oct. 18, will be held at The Seagull Shop on Pemaquid Point, on Sunday, Nov. 17, from noon until sunset. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at noon for food and music. The remembrance service will begin at 2 p.m. The music and celebration will continue throughout the afternoon, culminating with the viewing of the meteor shower at dusk. Please bring a story to tell, a poem to read, and/or a favorite dish to share.

Aloysius “Al” J. O’Donnell Jr., 88, of Waldoboro, passed away on Nov. 7, 2024, at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick with his loving family by his side. He was born on Feb. 20, 1936, to parents Aloysius J. O’Donnell Sr. and Doris M. (Smith) O’Donnell.

Nancy (West) Ames Oct. 15, 1943 - Nov. 10, 2024

Nancy (West) Ames, 81, of Jefferson, passed away Nov. 10, 2024, following a long battle with cancer. She was born in Damariscotta on Oct. 15, 1943, the daughter of Joseph E. and Edith (Bryant) West.
