Lincoln Wins Opening Cross Country Meets Medomak runners win individually
Medomak Valley hosted their first cross country meet of the season on Sept. 26 with Lincoln Academy. Racers lined up six feet apart at the start. There were no cow bells, roar of the crowd or cheers along the way, as the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference made the tough decision during the COVID-19 pandemic to not allow spectators at any sporting events this fall.
On the Trail in Lincoln County West Woods Trails, Wiscasset Community Trails
The West Woods Trails are part of the Wiscasset Community Trails system. West Woods Trails start in the 83-acre Sortwell Memorial Forest, which is owned by the New England Forestry Foundation. The property was donated to the foundation in 1955 by Daniel R. Sortwell and serves as a working example of sustainable forest management.

Walter White, of Waldoboro, recently released his second sports history book, “Island Hoops & Scratches,” which is about playing basketball and billiards on Vinalhaven.
On the Trail in Lincoln County Knickerbocker Lake Public Access, Boothbay
Knickerbocker Lake Public Access, owned by the town of Boothbay, is a carry-in site to 105-acre freshwater Knickerbocker Pond. The carry to the lake is less than 100 yards long and is a wide, gravel path with portions covered in wood chips. There is a nice, shallow beach area and floating dock on-site for easy access by a canoe or kayak.

Nature photographer Mark Allen, of Newcastle, loves spending his free time traveling the back roads of Maine in search of the perfect shot. Some days he spends 12-18 hours bumping along dirt roads at a snail’s pace, looking for wildlife in every clearing and every brook, bog, and pond along the way.
