South Bristol painter Sally Loughridge returns to Archipelago, the Island Institute’s gallery and store, in Rockland with new sea and landscapes through Sept. 19. For over 18 years, she has exhibited her artwork at Archipelago, home to unique original art, craft, and design representing the very best of Maine’s islands and coast. This year, the 200th birthday of Maine, also marks the 20th anniversary of this Rockland landmark.

Herbert Donald Kroitzsh, Don to his friends and family, 80, of Edgecomb, passed suddenly Saturday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2020. He left us in the way he always said he wanted to, in full control of his vast mental faculties. Don had been experiencing heart issues for the past year.

Rising Tide Co-Op Donates 6,500 Meals
Since the beginning of April, Rising Tide Co-op has been producing meals for Lincoln County food pantries. Everything from American chop suey to smothered beef and onions to sweet and sour tofu have been on the menu and, where possible, have utilized local ingredients.

Waldoboro is justly famous for its giant vessels — from the 1,689-ton “Governor Ames,” built in 1888 by Levitt Storer, to the six palmer schooners built between 1900 and 1904 by George Welt. While these vessels are well-known, others that are less renowned are the hundreds of smaller craft — schooners, brigs, barks, and barkentines — that were also constructed in the 16 shipyards of our village.
