Our father, Burleigh Clason Stevens, left us Sunday, March 8, 2020 at his home on Long Pond, Somerville. This is where Dad was the happiest. He was born in Chelsea on May 17, 1930, a son of George Emery Stevens and Goldie (Plummer) Stevens.

Eleanor Mae Ferrier, 97, of Damariscotta, passed away at her home on the morning of March 9, 2020. Born in Passaic, N.J. on May 3, 1922, she was the daughter of Henry and Nellie (VanSoest) Birkhoff.

Edward B. Perry, 91, of Edgecomb, passed away on Feb. 29, 2020 from complications with pneumonia at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

John Joseph Kinloch, age 82, of Laurel, Md., passed away peacefully on March 3, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. John was born on Oct. 9, 1937 in Springfield, Mo. to the late Milton and Kathryn Kinloch.

Alice Iglehart McAdams died peacefully on March 1, 2020 at the age of 96, in her home at Schooner Cove independent living community, Damariscotta, Maine. She was proud to be the longest-tenured resident, having lived there for 28 years.

This year has brought back many wonderful memories of my grammar school days and my last year at Franklin Grammar School when I was in the eighth grade. Back in those days, one had to complete a course in Maine state history and pass it to go on to high school. I recall that each eighth grade student had to make a large notebook of items containing photos, items on Maine events and Maine statehood, and items that lead up to Maine becoming a state on March 15, 1820.

John David Carroll, 69, loving husband and father, passed away at his home in Bremen on March 3, 2020 after a short, brave battle with Glioblastoma. He was surrounded by his loving family.

On March 15, Maine will officially celebrate its 200th birthday. The state will memorialize the occasion with the official Statehood Day Commemoration, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Augusta Armory
