Rice Exhibits ‘Early Spring’ Paintings at Skidompha

A selection of springtime paintings, titled “Early Spring,” by Susan Bartlett Rice will be on display in the Carey Gallery at Skidompha Library, located at 184 Main St., Damariscotta, throughout the month of March and April.

New Hope Open House

New Hope for Women will hold an open house at its new 18 Belvedere Road location in Damariscotta on Friday, March 27 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. The public is invited to stop in to meet agency staff, to hear more about services, and to enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and wine. Adding to the fun will be drawings for gift cards from local merchants, such as Rising Tide Co-op and Sherman’s Maine Coast Bookshop.

Midcoast Lyme Disease Support & Education regrets to inform the public that its sixth annual Midcoast Lyme Disease Support & Education conference on Saturday, April 11 has been canceled, along with the April 10 free documentary showing of “Skin Deep: The Battle Over Morgellons.”

Opera House Show Cancellations

As of the morning of Friday, March 13, The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor has decided that to adhere to Gov. Janet Mills’ request to avoid gatherings of 250 or more and in a general concern for the opera house community, shows coming up over the next month must be cancelled.

Schooner Cove Resident Spotlight: Shirley Tawney

Shirley Tawney was born in Ottawa, Kansas and grew up in the Kansas City area, in Kansas, with her parents, two brothers, and a sister. Her father worked for the railroad, so she, her younger brother, and her parents were able to take many trips around the country.

Feed Our Scholars Postpones Fundraiser

Feed Our Scholars has decided, in an abundance of caution, to postpone its Saturday, March 14 recipe auction fundraiser scheduled for 5 p.m. at the St. Philip’s Lippiat Hall, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, intended to raise funds to supply weekend packs of food for Wiscasset schoolchildren living in food-insecure situations.

Waldo’s ‘Carousel’ Screening Canceled

The Waldo Theatre in Waldoboro first and foremost cares about the community. In the interest of keeping people as safe as possible during the COVID-19 crisis, the theater is following Gov. Janet Mills’ recommendation to cancel gatherings of 250 or more people and calling off the Friday, March 13 screening of “Carousel.”

Third Annual Lincoln County Yard Sale

After a long, cold winter, it is time to start spring cleaning. What better way to clean the house, garage, basement, or attic than to convert some of that clutter into cash? To kick off the yard sale season right and bring the community together, Lincoln County Publishing Co. is teaming up with the Central Lincoln County YMCA to host the Lincoln County Yard Sale, a huge indoor yard sale, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. This event will take place in the CLC YMCA gym, and admission is free.
