Walter Gallant Memorial Walk for Diabetes is April 5
The 13th annual Damariscotta-Newcastle Lions Club Walkathon for diabetes in memory of Lion Walter Gallant is scheduled for Sunday, April 5 at 1 p.m. The 3.5-mile walk begins and ends at the First National Bank of Damariscotta. The goals of the walk are to raise awareness and funds for diabetes-related programs and services in the Damariscotta area.

Wednesday, Feb. 26 was unseasonably warm as we made our way to a public hearing on L.D. 2104, “An Act To Support and Increase the Recycling of Packaging,” at the Maine State House. We’ve reported previously in these pages on various stages of this bill’s development by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. We were there to witness its unveiling before the Joint Standing Committee on the Environment and Natural Resources.

Harbor Theater in Boothbay Harbor is closed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Feb. 27-29, for repairs to its projector. A sudden failure of a circuit board on Wednesday, Feb. 26 caused the closing.

New Musical Features Arrangements by Local Pianist Sean Fleming
A brand-new musical is coming to Midcoast Maine this summer. As part of Thomaston’s contribution to the Maine bicentennial celebration, The Watts Hall Community Players have chosen “Count Me In,” a musical about Gen. Henry Knox, an American patriot, as their summer production. The show will be performed in historic Watts Hall, Thomaston, June 26, 27, and 28, and July 2 and 3.
