The Lincoln Academy field hockey team beat Morse 7-6 in overtime in a preseason scrimmage on Tuesday, Sept. 2 in Newcastle. The Eagles rallied from a 2-0 deficit after the first quarter to earn the win in their final preseason tune-up. Lexie Houghton scored the winning goal and Bailey Brewer tallied five goals and had one assist to lead the Eagles to the victory.

After a rebuilding year in 2024, the Medomak Valley golf program appears to be back on track to compete for a playoff spot.

Lincoln Academy’s Karen Higgins won the girls Panther 2-Miler with a time of 11:44:64 to open the high school cross country competition season on Saturday, Aug. 30 in Waldoboro. Higgins, a junior who is one of the top high school runners in Maine, enrolled at Lincoln Academy this fall after competing for the Boothbay-Wiscasset cross country and track and field teams over the past two years.

Kayaking is a classic maritime pastime in Midcoast Maine. For the past few months, up to a dozen teenagers were offered the opportunity to experience the outdoor sport on Fridays for free as a participant in the Central Lincoln County YMCA teen kayaking program.

Tyler Cole and Casey Taber took first place in Random Doubles league play with a score of 43 at Cider Hill Farm Disc Golf on Tuesday, Aug. 19 in Waldoboro. The Random Doubles league meets at Cider Hill Farm every Tuesday night at 5 p.m. from spring to late fall.

Athletes and coaches at Lincoln Academy, Medomak Valley High School, Wiscasset Middle High School, and Boothbay Region High School kicked off the fall sports season on Monday, Aug. 18 in pleasant weather.

More than 80 runners and walkers participated in the 20th annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K road race on Sunday, Aug. 17. A record turnout of 59 runners raced in the Shore Run 10K, and more than two dozen completed the 5K family fun walk.  Benjamin Demers, 24, of Topsfield, was the overall winner, crossing the finish line in a time of 42:27.

The beginning of the fall school sports season is coming up fast and Medomak Valley has announced tryout and practice details, and team coach information for all of the various high school and middle school programs. Tryouts for all Medomak Valley High School fall sports begin Monday, Aug. 18.

Steep downhill trails are hard to find in Lincoln County, but that doesn’t deter a pair of young local athletes from pursuing the adrenaline-inducing sport they love. Lincoln Academy graduates Nathan True (‘22) and Jonas Stepanauskas (‘24) often travel throughout Maine and New England to find the perfectly pitched, “gravity” trails they crave.

The Central Lincoln County YMCA is offering free teen kayaking on three Fridays in August including Aug. 8, 15, and 22.

The success of a competition-level track in proximity to the Midcoast area is helping to fuel more interest in the niche sport in Lincoln County. A group of Medomak Valley area racers competed in various age divisions and motorcycle classes at the Wheeler Spring MX track on Saturday, Aug. 2 in Bowdoin. The local kids train together and ride for fun on informal trails in Warren and Waldoboro, but competing at a tournament race track like Wheeler Spring MX with hundreds of other kids on summer weekends is a thrill they look forward to.

The Central Lincoln County YMCA coed adult tennis team won the mixed 18 and over United States Tennis Association New England sectional championship on June 22 in Simsbury, Conn. It is the first time a team from the CLC YMCA has won a USTA sectional championship.
