On July 3, 2021, Arthur Lee Gillespie lost his ongoing dispute with the Marlboro Man. He left peacefully from his home in Dresden, with his grandkids playing in the background, his faithful dog Bleu lying by his side, and surrounded by many of those who loved him. Lee died well.

Tools Sought for Benefit Sale at the Carpenter’s Boat Shop
The Carpenter’s Boat Shop in Pemaquid is looking for woodworking tools, power tools, or hand tools that are no longer in use. The boat shop is holding a massive tool sale on Saturday, Aug. 28 to benefit its apprenticeship program. Donated tools need to be in good working condition. Tools in need of repair cannot be accepted.
Damariscotta Historical Society Presents ‘Damariscotta, Maine: The Postcard View’ July 18
Kevin Johnson, photo archivist for the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, will present “Damariscotta Maine: The Postcard View; Selections from the Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company” on Sunday, July 18 at 3 p.m. at the Inn Along the Way, 741 Main St. in Damariscotta. The slide show and talk will present the story of the postcard company as well as historical views of Damariscotta and its neighboring towns. This should be a very interesting and fun show and additional information from attendees will make it even more so.

With the Fourth of July just a few days away, it is time for the Historical Society to plan for the late summer. The COVID-19 virus made it impractical to open the museum last summer and we have no plans to open it for July.

Art Show: Bremen to Havana
When summer is in full bloom, galleries and art walks welcome visitors and residents to view the diverse works of artists in Maine. This year, Bremen Library on Route 32 will host a show by Sharon Marchi during the month of July. The works include both oil on canvas and watercolor paintings. A reception on Friday, July 9 from 4-7 p.m. is open to the community.

Susan Esther Schofield Service Announcement

Damariscotta
The Damariscotta Fireworks display will begin immediately after dusk in the municipal parking lot. There will be no daytime festivities this year. In the event of bad weather, the display will be postponed until Monday, July 5.
