Steep downhill trails are hard to find in Lincoln County, but that doesn’t deter a pair of young local athletes from pursuing the adrenaline-inducing sport they love. Lincoln Academy graduates Nathan True (‘22) and Jonas Stepanauskas (‘24) often travel throughout Maine and New England to find the perfectly pitched, “gravity” trails they crave.

The Central Lincoln County YMCA is offering free teen kayaking on three Fridays in August including Aug. 8, 15, and 22.

The success of a competition-level track in proximity to the Midcoast area is helping to fuel more interest in the niche sport in Lincoln County. A group of Medomak Valley area racers competed in various age divisions and motorcycle classes at the Wheeler Spring MX track on Saturday, Aug. 2 in Bowdoin. The local kids train together and ride for fun on informal trails in Warren and Waldoboro, but competing at a tournament race track like Wheeler Spring MX with hundreds of other kids on summer weekends is a thrill they look forward to.

The Central Lincoln County YMCA coed adult tennis team won the mixed 18 and over United States Tennis Association New England sectional championship on June 22 in Simsbury, Conn. It is the first time a team from the CLC YMCA has won a USTA sectional championship.

Camden Hills beat number one seed Medomak Valley 55-49 in a Cony Summer League boys basketball championship tournament semifinal match on Monday, July 28 in Augusta. The Windjammers then beat No. 3 seed Gardiner 53-45 to earn the championship title.

The Boothbay 36ers lost 10-4 to the Central Maine Hurricanes in a Senior Legion playoff game on Sunday, July 27 at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor. The 36ers were ousted from the double-elimination championship tourney due to their loss to Central Maine combined with a 6-2 defeat to Roderick-Crosby on Saturday, July 26.

The Boothbay A’s beat Bath 4-3 in Babe Ruth baseball league action on Tuesday, July 22 in Boothbay. The A’s won on a walk-off fielder’s choice in the bottom of the final inning.

Rising Lincoln Academy seniors Seamus Strout and Thomas Mickael are challenging themselves and advancing their skills by playing lacrosse for the Maine Mussels travel team this summer. The Maine Mussels game schedule consists of three weekend-long tournaments throughout New England in June and July.

Ultimate Frisbee, also known as “ultimate,” is an emerging sport for all ages that is building a loyal following in Lincoln County. The two most popular opportunities to play locally are in Damariscotta at the Great Salt Bay Community School on Sundays at 3 p.m. and in Boothbay at Clifford Park on Mondays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.

The Medomak Valley 11-12 Little League baseball team lost to York 14-4 on Monday, July 21 in Machias. With the loss on Monday and another defeat at the hands of Capital Area on Saturday, July 19, the District 2 champion team was bounced from the double elimination Maine Little League 12U championship tournament.

The Boothbay A’s lost 15-5 to Brunswick in a Babe Ruth game on Monday, July 14 in Boothbay. The A’s held a 3-0 advantage after two innings, but Brunswick took advantage of six errors to surge ahead and then coasted to the victory.

Medomak Valley overcame an early deficit to beat Five Town 6-3 in the championship game of the District 2 Little League 11-12 championship tournament on Friday, July 11 at Sukeforth Field in Waldoboro.

Ryan Linehan won the 32nd annual Sheepscot River Race on Sunday, July 6 in Wiscasset. Linehan paddled a kayak to victory in a time of 54 minutes flat. The 6-mile canoe and kayak race began at the Route 1 rest area bridge in Newcastle and finished at the town landing in Wiscasset.
